An excellent night was had at Great Scott in Allston with Flying Nun jewels-in-the-crown The Bats. Even for a Sunday night the room was cracklin’ with enthusiasm provided by an array of fans both young and middle aged, all of who were hoping to get in bed early enough to make it to work tomorrow without killing themselves. When the band turned up pretty much on the nose at 10:30 our prayers were answered and they soared through a long set filled with favorites. Here’s a couple clips of the night, including much anticipated closer “North By North”. Though fans didn’t get to hear “Block of Wood” they assure us the Maxwell’s crowd tonight may draw that lucky straw. The band’s tour continues for a few more weeks! Go see them in your town. They came halfway around the world to see you.

Opener Bent Shapes were also something to write home about. Their set was full of crisp energetic pop that fit seamlessly with the headliner. The band, formerly known as The Girlfriends, was selling their new flexi-disc at the event, so we salute them for doing it old school. We look forward to the day they’re as old as us.
